Tutoring that works!

About Me

Hi, I'm Polly.

I'm currently teaching at an international school in Madrid and have worked in education for the past 7 years. Throughout that time, I've taught students across a range of ages and stages, from 11+ preparation and GCSEs to A Levels and university-level academic support. While I enjoy classroom teaching, tutoring has always been my favourite part of the job. I value the opportunity to work closely with students, understand how they learn best, and help them build confidence in their abilities.

Outside of work, I love travelling and experiencing different cultures. Moving abroad has given me the chance to explore more of Europe, and I spend many weekends road-tripping around Spain whenever I can.

I also have a Cavapoo who travels with me when possible and is a big part of my life. If I'm not teaching or travelling, you'll probably find me somewhere near the coast. Give me sunshine, a good book, and a beach, and I'm very happy.

I believe great tutoring is about more than improving grades. It's about creating a safe, positive learning environment where students feel confident and capable. Nurturing that confidence helps to build motivation, develop discipline, and equip students with the skills they need to reach their full potential.

Qualifications

I studied Geography at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 2019 with a First-Class degree. My course covered both physical and human geography, including environmental systems, climate change, urban development, and global inequality, alongside strong training in data analysis and research methods. My dissertation explored the efficacy of teachers in delivering green education that sits outside the formal curriculum. It was at this point I realised education would be a central part of my career.

Following this, I formally pursued teaching, completing a PGCE in Business Studies at the University of Sussex, graduating with Distinction. This degree course focused on both subject knowledge and the practical science of teaching, including lesson planning, curriculum design, assessment strategies, and behaviour management. My degree was 99% practical application and school-based training, allowing me to develop and refine my teaching practice in real classroom environments. The course strengthened my understanding of how students learn and how to adapt teaching methods to meet individual needs across different ability levels. I continued with my placement school for the full four years, acquiring qualified teacher status in 2023.

Since 2019, I have taught Geography, Business, and Economics, gaining 7 years of experience working with students in a classroom setting. Alongside my teaching career, I have consistently provided private tutoring, supporting students with exam preparation and learning techniques. I started tutoring whilst at university with 11+ candidates, and now I confidently and successfully support A-level students access aspirational university destinations.
